Induction and Infrared Cooker Review (2020): INFRARED COOKER IS THE BETTER ONE!!
In the context of Bangladesh, cooking in a gas stove is getting difficult day by day as there is scarcity of gas and for working families it’s getting too difficult to manage cooking just on time with this little gas. This is the reason why people are showing their interest in buying electric cooker which comes in two forms:
- Induction cooker
- Infrared cooker
These are totally electric based, no tension for gas or gas bill,no excess heat, people can enjoy cooking peacefully.
But the main problem which people often face is “which one is better?”. If you ask for my opinion then I must say that Infrared cooker is the better one. If you look at it’s outlook, features, pros and cons and everything you will definitely find it the better one.
Now before any further discussion let’s have a look at the both types of cooker.
Induction cooker & Infrared cooker:
Infrared cooker:
Infrared cooker is a kind of electric cooker which basically made of halogen lamps in a corrosion protected metal plate. Radiant coils are surrounding the lamps for which it can provide heat evenly. It works almost like a microwave as it passes heat to the cookware by direct infrared radiation.
Cookware for infrared cooker:
Any type of cookware which is heat proof and has a flat surface can be used in it. This is the reason people love it the most.
Price:
You can easily get infrared cooker at any nearby crockery shop within 2500৳(taka) to 6000৳(taka). It’s a little pricey than any gas stove.
Brands:
Prestige, Hawkins, Miyako are the well known brands of this type of cooker. These brands are holding a strong place in the market.
Now let’s have a look at the pros and cons of infrared cooker:
Pros:
- It cooks evenly. So you are getting tasty food for sure.
- Any heat proof and flat surfaced cookware can be used in it. So you need not to worry about buying a special kind of cookware for cooking.
- It actually uses less energy. Use of less energy means less electricity bill. So now you can save your money with no tension.
- You can have barbeque as it provides an iron net with it.
- It also can be used for baking as it cooks food evenly.
- Some of the brands provide child-lock which ensure safety for your family.
- It’s glass protected surface is very easy to clean.
- It’s portable. So you can place it anywhere you want.
Cons:
- It takes time to cool down.
- As it heats everything so there is a possibility of burn.
- Things can catch fire if not careful enough.
- It’s BBQ is too low and slow.
Induction cooker:
Induction cooker is a kind of electric cooker which holds a copper wire coil inside its ceramic plate and heats pots directly through electro magnatic induction.It heats really fast.
Cookware for induction cooker:
For cooking in an induction cooker a cookware should be a little special type like it should be magnetic, it should be made of stainless steel or cast iron. To catch the heat fast a cookware needs to have a strong iron body at the bottom of it or it won’t be able to catch the heat perfectly. Other types of cookware are not suitable for it.
Price:
Induction cooker also available in nearby crockery shop within 2500৳(taka) to 6000৳(taka). Infrared and induction cooker can be found in the same range. Both are a little pricey than any gas stove.
Brands:
Vision, Philips, Walton are well known brands of induction cooker. You will find different models for these bands.
Now let’s have a look at the pros and cons of induction cooker:
Pros:
- Induction cooker heats too fast like instantly.
- It saves almost 50% of cooking time for its fast heating process.
- As it only heats a special kind of cookware so It’s kind of safe to use. No tension for burn or fire.
- It’s easy to clean for its flat surface.
- It’s nature friendly as it does not produce any fire or smoke.
Cons:
- It needs a special kind of cookware which is made of stainless steel or cast iron that means the rest of the cookware in your cupboard are useless for it.
- It’s hard to balance the temperature as it heats too fast so there is a possibility of having over cooked food.
- It’s noisy. It creates a rattle or buzz type sound which sometimes can be irritating.
Which one is better?
Now if you are confused and thinking “which is the better one?”and” which should I buy?”Then these points might help you to find your desired one. Let’s have a look at these:
- Induction cooker wins: If you compare the heating speed then I must say Induction cooker heats too fast and here infrared is a little slow.
- Induction cooker wins: If you are thinking about the safety then induction cooker wins as it only heats the required cookware but infrared cooker heats everything. So It’s a little risky.
- Infrared cooker wins: Induction cooker does not cook evenly. There is a possibility to have less tastier food but Infrared cooker cooks food evenly so you will surely get tastier meal.
- Infrared cooker wins: Induction cooker heats really fast so if you don’t balance temperature perfectly then there is a possibility to have over-cooked food but Infrared cooker has a systematic way. So there is no possibility of getting over-cooked food.
- Infrared cooker wins: Induction cooker needs special type of cookware. So your other cookware will be useless but all types of heat-proof and flat surfaced cookwares can be used on infrared cooker.
- Infrared cooker wins: Induction cooker has no facilities for BBQ but infrared has the option. You can easily have a less messy BBQ in the infrared cooker.

Now I am sure it’s very clear why Infrared cooker is the better one. Though Induction cooker is no less.
